Tattoo Aftercare

Second Skin

First 48 -72 hours

  • Keep second skin wrap (the transparent wrap) on for 48 -72 hours.

  • Shower normally, but do not excessively soak, or submerge tattoos in water.

  • There will be ink and bodily fluids leaking under the wrap; it’s normal!

  • If you notice leakage, or the wrap starts to come off, do not attempt to reapply it. Instead, remove it immediately.

  • If water gets inside the wrap, remove it immediately.

After the initial 48 - 72 hour period, remove the second skin wrap very slowly (preferably in the shower). Wash the tattoo area gently with antibacterial soap and warm water. Afterwards, let the area air dry.

Plastic Wrap

First 24 hours

  • Keep wrap on for 4 to 6 hours.

  • Do not get water into the wrap.

  • There will be ink and bodily fluids leaking under the wrap; it’s normal!

  • If you notice leakage, or the wrap starts to come off, do not attempt to reapply it. Instead, remove it immediately.

After 4 to 6 hours, take off the plastic wrap. Wash your tattoo with soap and warm water. Let the area air dry. Do not apply any lotion for the night. You can start applying lotion the next day after washing your tattoo and letting it air dry. Sleep on a clean towel/bedding if possible.

Healing Process (4 to 5 weeks)

  • Keep the tattoo clean by washing it with antibacterial soap twice a day.

  • Apply the smallest amount of lotion possible; only enough to keep the tattoo moisturized,. If your skin appears shiny after lotion, that means you put too much on. Less is more. DO NOT RUB, USING PATTING MOTION INSTEAD.

  • Wait until the area is completely dry after showers to apply any kind of moisturizer. You can pat dry your tattoo with a clean paper towel. It’s ideal to wait 15 mins after your tattoo is dry to apply any kind of moisturizer.

  • Clean bedding and clothing are important to avoid infection, as dirt, oils, and other substances can affect the healing process of your tattoo.

  • During the healing process, it’s also normal for the tattoo area to flake and scab.

  • After you remove second skin bandages, it is normal for the area to be a little sticky from the adhesive. This will go away as you wash your tattoo. Do not apply excessive force to take off the stickiness.

  • Keep in mind a tattoo is essentially an open wound, please take good care of it by keeping it clean to avoid infection. Do not let other people, or pets, touch your new tattoo.

- DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH AT YOUR TATTOO -

Instead, continue moisturizing

Things to Avoid

  • Avoid over-stretching the areas that causes cracking of the skin/scabs.

  • Avoid over-moisturizing. A thin layer of unscented lotion is all you need.

  • Avoid pool, ocean, river, lake, or pond water after two weeks.

  • Avoid exercising as well as other activities that cause sweating for two weeks.

  • Avoid washing the area excessively.

  • Avoid exposing the area to direct sunlight.

  • Avoid using sunscreen until the tattoo is fully healed (4 to 5 weeks).

After 6 weeks, please send a healed photo to neonguyentattoos@gmail.com
